I arrived at the decision to write this article about the “method” University of the People uses, after receiving messages from everywhere, asking for such peculiarity. As a student who has almost finished her path, I know how this process works, by virtue of the fact I personally experienced that, during the past five years. As a consequence, I can show proof of its advantage as well as their application; simultaneously, I will inform you about some researches, including a confirmation of what I’ve been saying all along. Point of departure: the method of University of the People is extremely different from traditional ones; consequence: people all around the world compare it with their own.
The following sentence well describes why technologies work when combined with Online studies. See what Mohamed Ally (see below for references) writes in his study “Foundations of educational theory for online learning”: “..studies suggest that the reason for those benefits is not the medium of instruction, but the instructional strategies built into the learning materials. So, we will try to show you how each course works, starting from their length: 8 weeks + 3 days at the end for the final exam. The study week starts on Thursday, time according to your geographical area; then, you tackle some reading assignments and you realize your homeworks. Each week assignment consists of: discussion forum post, essay, learning journal, then self-quiz; consequently, each of them gives you a grade, except for the self-quiz, but we strongly suggest you to take them, since they aid you making practice for the graded quizzes (usually two) and the final exam. Each of those assignments, then graded quizzes and exam, release a percentage that generates your final grade.
